Born in Agra, Bano Tahira Sayeed grew up in a profoundly intellectual and multilingual household. Her father was a polyglot professor fluent in fourteen languages, and her mother hailed from Isfahan, Iran. This rich cultural and linguistic environment, steeped in Sufi philosophy, nurtured her literary talents from a young age, providing her with proficiency in Urdu, Persian, French, and English. After graduating from Isabella Thoburn College in Lucknow, her literary journey began in earnest, and by the age of 18, her work was being broadcast on Tehran radio. In 1945, she married Brigadier Ghulam Mohammed Sayeed and moved to Hyderabad, where she became an integral part of the city’s elite literary circles and a regular presence at poetic symposia (mushairas).
